First introduced by Jacques Derrida in Specters of Marx.

Broadly refers to the “atemporal nature of Marxism and its tendency to ‘haunt Western society from beyond the grave’”. Describes a situation in which presence is replaced by a deferred non-origin.

This relates to Derrida’s concept of Différance, where meaning is always deferred and things are defined by what they are not.

Also, apparently, hauntology is a genre of pretty cool music.
